On Meditation
I will share an exercise that I learned from someone who formally studied Taoism:
Sit down or lay down, relax your muscles especially your jaw, and close your eyes. Envision a mountain against the backdrop of a sky. In this exercise, the mountain represents your consciousness and clouds will represent your thoughts. Do not try to think of anything but do not try to think nothing. Let thoughts and feelings come to you without resistance and without you trying to direct them in any way. As thoughts come to you picture them as clouds passing by the peak of the mountain. It does not matter if the clouds are many or few or if they are white and fluffy or stormy. These are natural weather patterns passing by a mountain. Let them come and let them pass by. Do not dwell on them. Observe. Eventually the clouds will be fewer…
